Emissions testing for vehicles in required in the state of Maine under a law that went into effect in January of 1999.  This law requires that residents of Cumberland County who own a gas powered vehicle have that vehicle’s emissions tested.  For cars manufactured in 1996 or later an Onboard Diagnostics inspection is required and for vehicles manufactured prior to 1996 there is an exhaust and gas cap test to check on emissions.
